“John, you smoke and your cholesterol is way too high,” many doctors told him. He dismissed their advice at the time. However, a terrifying heart attack in 1994 at the age of 42 served as a wake-up call he was unable to ignore. He acknowledged, “I learned my lesson.”

Three times has he been married: the first time was in 1970 to 1981 with Priscilla Esterline. Afterwards, in 1981, he wed Victoria Granucci, and the two parted ways in 1989.
